It is that time of year again. From November through January, the U.S. Postal Service is inundated with more mail than any other time. It forecasts to process nearly 60 million pieces each day as compared to the 53 million daily in 2021. Private global carriers are also predicting heavy seasonal volume. This provides a good opportunity to refresh on proper package screening protocols.
Devin Boesing wakes up each morning with a smile on his face. A native of Oahu, Hawaii, Devin is surrounded by enviable views – picturesque mountain ranges, deep lush valleys, white sandy beaches and crystal blue waters. But he says it is more than the landscape that makes him happy. He enjoys a great life with his girlfriend, Katrina, their two-year-old son, Dallas, and Regan, his best friend and canine partner for the last six and a half years.
Twenty years ago, Enhanced Protection Services, launched a patented state-of-the-art screening technology. SmartTech®, An Allied Universal® Solution, integrates with existing X-ray equipment to provide real-time access to Enhanced Protection Services’s experienced bomb technicians 24 hours a day, seven days a week. This instant analysis of any suspicious item in 90 seconds is a game changer in avoiding unnecessary evacuations.
Since the anthrax attacks of 2001, where five Americans were killed and 17 were sickened, we have been acutely aware of the risk posed by mail-borne threats. Yet still too often, mailroom screening programs fail to reach the critical standards necessary to protect personnel, infrastructure and brand from today’s heightened threats.

Their powerful engine is fueled with a strong work ethic.
Earlier this month in New York, the Geneva Police Department public safety building was on lockdown for hours following the discovery of a suspicious package in the mail. Monroe County Bomb Squad ultimately determined the explosive device was an inert grenade incapable of an explosion. This is just one of the thousands of suspicious package incidents reported throughout the country annually.
The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) established its Aviation Security Advisory Committee (ASAC) in 1989 following the bombing of Pan American World Airways Flight 103 over Lockerbie, Scotland. Since then, the ASAC continues to advance its mission to provide TSA with advice on a wide breath of industry security matters through its roster of 33 thought-leader members.
