So first things first, let's get to know our wedding couple a little better. Our lovely bride Alice is from the UK, while Groom Eoghan is from Ballymurphy, just down the road from Borris in Co. Carlow. The pair currently live in The UK where they met on a dating app in 2015.
The couple were engaged in March 2020, the weekend Alice turned 30. Alice fills us in on how it went, "We were supposed to be in Paris that weekend (a surprise) but the first Covid lockdowns and travel rules came into effect that day so Eoghan instead proposed in Richmond park close to where we were living at the time. It’s a really beautiful place and has always been special to us."
When it came to planning their day, and picking a venue, the pair immediately thought of a Borris House wedding which is just 10 minutes away from Groom Eoghan's home, and a place that Alice fell in love with when she first came over to Ireland.
Alice’s dream was for a very natural, wild, bohemian day. She envisioned a wedding with a very natural feel, not ‘messy’ but less structured, more bohemian, and relaxed, fun and atmospheric. They both wanted it to feel more like a beautiful gathering party for all their friends and family, and less of like a traditional wedding day. To help make these wedding day dreams come true, the couple enlisted the talents of wedding stylist Grace from Grace and Saviour.
As this would also be a destination wedding for a lot of Alice’s family and friends of the couple, they wanted the design to feel natural, seasonal and reflect the local destination and the gorgeous venue.
Alice and Eoghan also felt that their venue, Borris House was already beautiful and they wanted to enhance the unique spaces within, telling us "Borris House has it’s own beauty that meant we didn’t need to do too much, and it inspired what we did do. We also really wanted to reflect the beautiful surroundings so kept things as ‘natural’ and ‘wild’ as possible." Alice wanted to bring the beauty of the outdoors in where possible, to feel like the Irish landscape had grown up through the spaces using flowers and plants.
After the wedding, Alice said that the day was "more beautiful than she had imagined", and "that guests were blown away by the whole event."
For her bridal look, Alice choose the Miles dress by Wtoo by Watters which she sourced at London Bride Couture. A gorgeously effortless wedding dress with a full skirt, soft stretch illusion tulle, shirred sleeves and a peek-a-boo lace detail neckline. She completed her look with the Viola Ostrich Feather Tassel heels by Jimmy Choo.
She carried a lush spring bridal bouquet which consisted of parrot tulips, sweet pea and orchids.
For her bridesmaids, Alice choose silky one shoulder Jenny Yoo bridesmaids dresses in olive green along with a perfectly matched olive green suit for her 'bridesman'. We love how the spring tones in the lush bouquets pop against the shade!
When it came to the styling elements of the day, the couple decided to forgo traditional items such as centrepieces on every table or unneeded props and instead transform the feel of the room with thoughtful installations, and then simpler decisions on tables and guest spaces.
In lieu of favours, the couple made a donation to a charity that’s close to their hearts and left a note on each persons table setting to let them know.
The chic reception decor is complete with three of our favourite things: chic paper goods, gorgeous blooms and textured linens.
And not forgetting to mention, a delicious cake! This stunning wedding cake design is by Colhoun Creations which fitted with the flowers and styling perfectly.
Alice's advice to other couples planning a wedding is simple; "Try not to worry too much about everyone." She adds, "I spent hours running through their ‘experience’ minute by minute, from arrival on the day before, the meal the evening before, their breakfast the next day, obviously the wedding and party, but also the following day breakfast and second night party. We were accommodating about 70 people onsite so I set up baskets for their rooms, worried about dietary requirements, worried that they wouldn’t have enough food or the right equipment in their kitchens. Everything was ultimately fine but if it wasn’t they still would have sorted themselves out. They’re adults, and people that love you, it’s not something to stress about."
The couple took to the floor as newlyweds to Friday I’m In Love by The Cure before all their guests joined them on the floor to party the night away with their wedding band The Mixtape.
When asked what made the day extra special and personal to them, the couple replied, "Every single minute of it, but we particularly loved dancing in the shebeen until 5am with everyone!"
A very special thank you to Alice, Eoghan and Katie Kav for sharing this marvelous springtime Borris House wedding celebration with all of our readers. You can see even more gorgeous details from their day in the gallery below.
