With the spectacular Mount Falcon Estate as their host, our Sligo-born couple Róisín and Conor made their way across the globe for a magnificent spring celebration in the romantic country house. Starting their day with a beautiful church ceremony the pair travelled from Sligo to Mayo for their dreamy day which featured an epic charcuterie wedding cake, a phenomenal custom bridal gown and sweet, personalised touches. With Rafal Borek Photography there to capture their day in all its glory, check out Róisín and Conor's gorgeous wedding below!
Before diving into the details of their magnificent wedding day, let's get to know the happy couple a bit more! "We have been together since we were 16. This year we will celebrate our 16th anniversary. We met through school friends after travelling to town on the same school bus. Conor likes to let it be known that I had my eye on him long before he knew who I was. We’ve been so very fortunate to go through life together, school, college and a move to Vancouver. We’ve had many adventures together as we’ve grown up side by side and our greatest adventures are yet to come."
Fast forward to their sweet engagement story, Conor proposed on Róisín's 30th birthday while the pair were out skiing in Vancouver: "We had brought tea in a flask and a left over packet of Toffee Pops sent from Mum in a care package for Christmas. We sat to watch the sunset at the top of Cypress Mountain when Conor got down on one knee and popped the question. After having told his friends of the proposal plan, Conor’s friends had organised for there to be a photographer at the top to capture the moment. As a result, we have such precious memories of it."
Our glowing bride wore a custom Stesha Ho slip style dress with lace detailing alongside a coordinating pair of lace opera gloves: "This was one those most enjoyable parts of the wedding planning process, from discussing and deciding on the overall design, elements, choosing fabrics and lace, making decisions on sketches and proposals to fittings, it was such an enjoyable and interactive experience. I’ll never forget it."
Having arrived back home from Canada just a week before the wedding, the first stop in the couple's special day was St. Columba’s Church in Co. Sligo to exchange their vows. In an extra special addition to their ceremony, Róisín walked down the aisle with her father to a rendition of The Furey Brother's Sweet Sixteen sung by their close friend and her brother: "Conor and I have been together since we were 16 and this year we celebrate 16 years together, so having Niamh sing that song with such meaning was so special to us and immediately held the place of one of our favourite memories of the whole day."
How adorable is the couple's niece Kate-Marie who held the role of flower girl for the day with her sweet, personalised basket of baby's breath flowers?
"A very special memory will be my dad powerwashing and painting the church and church yard in preparation for our day, making and planting flowerboxes and much more with the help of Conor's dad also. The attention to detail and devotion to everything being perfect was incredible."
From the outset, the couple wanted their wedding to be a day that they and their guests could really enjoy: "Not a regimented series of events but an enjoyable experience, an opportunity to celebrate with our loved ones. We wanted things to feel relaxed, for guests to have all they could need or want, and for it to be an enjoyable, engaging day. Having been together as long as we have, we are very fortunate in that our friends and family are so familiar with one another and that ensured there was craic and laughter all weekend long."
Sustainable and picture-perfect, this eucalyptus leaf confetti toss is such a fantastic idea!
Róisín and Conor had this advice for any couples planning their own special day: "As best as you can, plan a day you want, not what you think is expected of you. On the day, regardless of how things turn out, it's evident when you take a step back for a second that everyone is enjoying themselves and are happy to be there to celebrate with you. Its so easy to get caught up in all the latest trends and ‘extras’ but don’t do it out of pressure or expectation to, just because someone else has. Enjoy your day."
For their Day Two celebrations the party continued back in their hometown of Sligo at their local pub, Austies in Rosses Point: "That was one of the main highlights of the whole event. Sean O'Farrell sang for us (when he wasn’t having to fight our family for the mic) and the party was electric, our guests were just something else. A night we won’t ever forget!"
Following their ceremony, the couple made their way to Mount Falcon Estate for their elegant reception: "We travelled to the venue the day before and set up the tablescapes with the help of our maid of honour, Elaine and Conor’s uncle Rory. We were able to make all of our signage using the cricut machine and a varied bunch of other pieces like mirrors. My dad made beautiful candle holders out of the wood that was once our childhood garden swing."
With a little help from their friends and family the couple put together this impressive charcuterie style spread in place of a wedding cake: "We ordered cheese wheels as well as all the cheese and crackers and my sister beautifully set up the display and decoration. Our neighbour had very kindly handcrafted wooden boards to display the cheese, which were also used during day two on the pizza table. My sister brought lots of unique tablewear and stands from the UK on the ferry also. We loved this and the guests seemed to really enjoy nibbling on it."
In an incredibly sweet gesture, the couple left little notes and champagne tokens at the seats of the engaged guests in attendance: "They included a little personalised message and a countdown to their own big day – just a little touch to thank them for celebrating their love with us."
Roísín's bridesmaids wore a trio of matching white monochromatic Park & Fifth gowns paired with chic long stem white rose bouquets: "I really wanted a timeless look that complemented the rest of the style." Describing their supremely stylish wedding aesthetic as having an accidentally "90s-esque theme," the couple wanted their wedding day to have a minimalistic, understated and classic feel.
With the beautiful gardens of Mount Falcon Estate serving as an idyllic backdrop to their wedding day, the couple knew the venue was the one because of its historic charm, the grounds and its exclusiveness: "Dubbed the ‘most romantic house in Ireland’, it was quite a fitting setting."
The couple's evening went on to include a stunning outdoor photoshoot on the grounds of Mount Falcon Estate, a first dance to Luke Combs Forever After All and a magnificent champagne tower in place of a cake cutting! In a particularly sweet moment during the speeches, groom Conor read a poem he had written: "there was equal parts tears and laughter as he recited it."
A token from their wedding day that they are sure to cherish for many years to come, Róisín and Conor also sourced an audio guestbook in the form of a vintage style telephone: "We were able to record our answering message and our guests left beautiful voice notes throughout the day and night. Listening to them has been equally emotional and hilarious – there may have been a few attempts to call taxis in the small hours!"
After their busy wedding festivities, the couple jetted off to the Amalfi Coast for their well deserved honeymoon on their way back to Vancouver: "It was a really special time, relaxing, sharing memories of the weeks gone by, receiving photos and messages from friends and family reliving our wedding day. We toured around, relaxed, had beautiful food and drinks and enjoyed every minute of the downtime."
