Dark Rustic Romance and Delicate Details: Cat & Liam's Autumn Wedding

Featuring the most enviable pair of shimmering green bridal shoes!

Get ready for rich autumnal ambience! This wedding venue in Newcastle-Upon-Tyne was the perfect backdrop to create an opulent, romantic atmosphere, enhanced by a misty, hazy sky on the crisp October morning for our real wedding couple Cat and Liam. Cat added rustic decor in rusty shades and a pair of shimmering green bridal shoes to complement her forest green bridal party. Lauren Elliot has kindly provided us with the beautiful imagery, so let's get the Pinterest boards ready and dive in!

Flashback to the year 2014, Cat had been at a Great Gatsby-themed party with her flatmates - think flapper dresses, fur coats and a lot of glitter. Liam on the other hand, was on a Christmas night out with his rugby team - think Santa hats and Christmas jumpers. But both fatefully ended up in the same club where they locked eyes! As for the proposal, the couple spent New Year’s EVe in Copenhagen in 2019 and after the fireworks, Liam got down on one knee. "It was down a cobbled lane and very understated, however it was super romantic and felt very us. I’m usually quite good at guessing his surprises, but this was a total shock!" says Cat.

Cat chose a timeless and elegant dress by Whistles. The figure-hugging square neck wedding gown was paired with a classic updo, full, hand-tied autumn florals and the most awe-worthy pair of bridal shoes - a pair of Cammellia heels by Loeffler Randall's in a dazzling in emerald green! Her beautiful bridesmaids donned a similar green shade in a mix-match selection of dresses.

The ceremony took place in Jesmond Dene House, along with the rest of the wedding day celebrations. The October month may have brought an overcast sky, but this only added to the romantically moody aesthetic! We adore the beautiful arch that awaited guests at the ceremony entrance. Speaking about the ceremony music, Cat says: "We’re lucky enough that my friend Hannah is a very talented musician and offered to sing a few acoustic covers of our favourite songs whilst we signed the registry. We absolutely loved her version of Can’t Help Falling in Love."

Elements that made the day super special were that each element reflected their personality. "This meant that we didn’t want to go down the staged photo route. One of the reasons we chose our wonderful photographer Lauren was because of her reportage style. We spent 15 to 20 minutess getting photos straight after the ceremony and the rest of the time was spent catching up with friends and family, celebrating and enjoying a few baby Guinness," they tell us.

The couple describes the wedding as timeless and elegant, with the wedding colour palette full of the warm russets of autumn and enhanced with plenty of greenery and foliage!

Jesmond Dene House stole the couple's hearts from the moment they stepped foot inside its vast Great Hall. The luxury boutique wedding venue is nestled minutes away from Newcastle's city centre, but still offers a rustic country setting without the hassle of travel - the best of both worlds, which our couple loved. "We knew we wanted to create something elegant and classy and Jesmond Dene provided the perfect backdrop."

Regarding the romantic, autumn-themed wedding aesthetic, the couple made sure the day was featured rustic accents, rich and earthy tones from beginning to end. "We were definitely inspired by the colours of autumn with dark greens, burnt oranges and touches of burgundy. We wanted to make the venue a huge feature of the wedding and let the stunning architecture really speak for itself, so opted for simple and minimal decor. I wanted a timeless, rustic feel to the day with a mix of traditional and contemporary. I’ll never forget taking a peek into the Great Hall before our guests sat down for our wedding breakfast and seeing our vision come to life!" says Cat.

The personalised monochrome wedding stationery had added a contemporary edge, complemented with black napkins, black-rimmed charger plates, tapered candlesticks and glass lanterns. Each guest was also greeted with a custom mini-wooden slice, with the name of each guest imprinted as a place name.

In terms of wedding guidance, they say: "Don’t sweat the small stuff! This was something that was said to us time and time again and it definitely rings true. The day itself is a bit of a whirlwind, so try and really be present at the moment and take a few minutes for yourselves to take it all in. We did a mini moon in Barcelona straight after the wedding weekend which was an absolute dream. We got 28-degree weather in October! Phenomenal food, culture and the people were so friendly. We’ve got a two-week honeymoon to New York and Washington DC planned which we can’t wait for!"
