Lush Forest Greens and Global Traditions: Jacqueline & Jeremy's Loft Wedding

A winter fete under twinkling lights

True love knows no boundaries and our gorgeous real wedding couple Jacqueline and Jeremy said their 'I dos' in an elegant winter wedding in front of family and friends from around the globe. Their November wedding at The Loft Templepatrick at the Rabbit Hotel in Co. Antrim, shows why winter nuptials are just so magical: with plenty of lush greenery, rich tones and romantic florals, rustic charm, and a great big party under twinkling fairy lights. Their enchanting day was captured in beautiful images by Iain Irwin. Prepare to swoon.

But first, let's get to know our couple. Jacqueline is from Northern Ireland and Jeremy from Canada but they first met in her neck of the woods. Jacqueline explains: "Jeremy was living in Italy and visited mutual friends of ours in Belfast who introduced us (their sons may have been planting the idea of us being together for a while)."

He pulled out all the stops when time came to asking that all-important question. With the help of Jacqueline's friends, he organised a proposal of dreamy proportions at sunset on her favourite beach, White Rock’s Beach in Killiney, Dublin. There was a spanner thrown in his romantic plans though as Jeremy nearly ended up missing his own proposal! His flight was delayed by three hours, we can only imagine his heart was pounding every single second, but luckily Jacqueline's best friend was really good at stalling.

"If Ireland meets Canada meets Italy is a vibe then that’s it," says Jacqueline when reminiscing of her big day. Rich tones set against the backdrop of a crisp and cold day - there's a reason we adore winter weddings! Jacqueline's favourite colour happens to be forest green and it served as the perfect jumping-off point for the bridal party.

Our bride glittered in a delicately beaded gown by London designer Eliza Jane Howell that had a touch of Art Deco glamour with a sweetheart neckline, sheer top and an exposed back. She gave the floor to her sparkling gown as she accessorised with minimal jewellery including delicate pearl hoop earrings. She wore her raven locks in a chic bun peppered with a floral headpiece along with wavy bangs that tumbledover her shoulders. Her father, who was dapper in a classic black tux, looked the proudest a father could be when he first saw her for the first time on her wedding day.

Her bridesmaids opted for velvet, floor-length gowns in the darkest of forest green from Folkster with varying necklines from Bardot to cold-shoulder and tied in a bow. Her mother was a picture of Old Hollywood glamour in a burgundy velvet gown.

Jacqueline always planned to have a wedding full of lush greenery and vibrant wildflowers and she certainly achieved that with her aesthetic.

The verdant theme was beautifully brought to life at the venue where the walls and ceiling were dressed with white flowers and lush foliage. The couple exchanged vows in front of a stunning white and red rose flower arch with added greenery.

It was so important for the couple that they had as many of their nearest and dearest present to celebrate their special day. Between them they have lived in Italy, Canada, Mozambique, Hungary, and Ireland so it was very much a global gathering with 110 guests paying witness as they officially became husband and wife. They explain: "It was the first time our siblings and lots of our friends were meeting each other from across continents so our wedding was a real blend of both of our lives."

“We tried to include different traditions to reflect the places we lived," they explain. For Jacqueline and Jeremy, the Italian tradition proved to be one of the most unforgettable moments of the ceremony as their friend, Aaron Krahn, gave a rousing rendition of Fai Meraviglie, the Italian cover of Great Things by Phil Wickham. They add: "It was really fun for those who travelled to experience their first Irish wedding.”

Jacqueline always dreamed of her wedding venue being rich with gorgeous greenery and she wanted banquet-style tables and lots and lots of lights to create a gentle, romantic glow. The Loft Templepatrick at the Rabbit Hotel & Retreat, the homely and laidback little sister to the lavish Galgorm Resort & Spa, was a no-brainer. "It exceeded expectations and after one viewing knew it was the one. We didn’t need to look anywhere else!"

They had a really unique guest book idea - which was also a photobooth! It went down a storm with the wedding guests. A sweet Canadian tradition that made the reception even more special was every time glasses were clinked during the meal the couple had to kiss.

"It was a particular highlight looking around the wedding reception and seeing the room filled with so many different people from different countries who we loved," they say.

Green wedding cakes have become increasingly popular. Seeing as the colour green represents new beginnings, harmony and balance, it's a beautiful and meaningful colour for your cake. While they had their wedding in the depths of winter they jetted off for a sunshine-soaked honeymoon in the Seychelles just two days later. "We couldn’t recommend it more. We spent a week lying in the sun, eating amazing food and relaxing. We also went scuba-diving and with they even got to pet a wild sea turtle underwater [with approval from their guide]."

As for their words of wisdom to impart to couples gearing up for their special day - don't worry everything will slot into place perfectly. Jacqueline says: "I was worried about the rain and we ended up getting married in a storm but I didn’t even notice the rain, it was the best day ever." A huge thank you to our real wedding couple Jeremy and Jacqueline for giving us a look at their lush loft wedding day and we'd like to give a big shout-out to Iain Irwin for the sublime imagery.
