Highschool sweethearts Vanessa and Stuart tied the knot in a serene church ceremony before heading over to the historic Corick House in Co. Tyrone in Northern Ireland for a fun-filled reception. With a rich autumnal colour palate, this October wedding featured personalised wedding favours, groomsmen in flat caps, tea-length bridesmaid dresses and vintage inspired finishing touches. Before we go into the details of their charming wedding day, let's get to know the happy couple a little more! Having met when they were just 10 years old at a summer camp, Vanessa's first impression of her now husband got the pair off to a bit of a rocky startc - he stole her paper airplane! "Let’s just say I wasn’t his biggest fan at the start. He asked me to be his girlfriend when we were 11, I said no. Twice when we were 13... I said no. Then again when we were 15, I finally gave in this time and said yes! So, it took him nearly six years to change my mind!"
Fast forward to Stuart's surprise proposal, the pair headed to Murlough Beach for a stroll during lockdown and after watching the sun set, Vanessa began to leave the beach. Stuart, who had just got out of a cast after breaking his ankle playing rugby, was trailing behind and when he called her name, she turned around and he was on one knee! Through plenty of happy tears, Vanessa said yes before helping Stuart up because of his injured ankle. "It was perfectly timed and just the way I wanted to be asked because I genuinely didn’t know it was going to happen."
With a 1950s theme running throughout their wedding day, our vintage fanatic bride Vanessa opted to wear a stunning floor length gown with a ruffled hemline and voluminous tulle under skirt, paired with a dried flower bouquet. "I have always loved old styles, vintage music, old movies, so that is probably where the idea came from. My mum always says that I was born in the wrong era!"
Carrying on the vintage theme, Vanessa's bridesmaids wore rust coloured, tea-length dresses paired with matching satin high heels. Stuart's groomsmen also stayed on theme with their Peaky Blinders-style looks, wearing flat caps and matching pocket watches. Arriving to the church, Vanessa walked up the aisle with her dad to a piano version of Here Comes The Sun.
How adorable are Vanessa and Stuart's flower girl and page boy in their outfits that coordinate with the rest of the wedding party!
Vanessa and Stuart had this advice for anyone embarking on their own wedding planning journey: "Get as much done early as you can. It takes a lot of the pressure and stress off so you can actually enjoy the run up to the wedding. Once you have a date picked, I would book and pay deposits off as much as possible. Closer to the wedding there will be the Hen and Stag, so you want to be able to enjoy those and not have wedding organising in the back of you head."
Hopping into a vintage car, the couple headed over to Vanessa's granny's house for their gorgeous wedding portraits before arriving at the historic Corick House for their reception. Alongside a cornhole board made by Stuart's dad so people could have a go at playing the game, wedding favours accompanied by messages and inside jokes for each guest, umbrellas in case of rain and a basket of shawls, the couple invited guests to take any leftover décor as an extra eco-friendly touch.
After all of the wedding festivities and a fun-filled reception which included a first dance to Better Together by Luke Combs, Vanessa and Stuart headed off on a well deserved honeymoon in the Canary Islands to catch some winter sun.
