London based couple Lucy and Matt traveled back to their home town of Belfast for their intimate and colourful back garden party. Surrounded by 20 of their closest friends and family members, the couple's micro-wedding allowed them to get the legal and religious aspects covered in serious style before their full-blown celebration in France the following week. Featuring a gorgeous tea-length Reformation dress and a spectacular photoshoot set against the backdrop of the city, this special, sunny day is not to be missed. Before we dive into the details of their charming wedding celebration, let's get to know the happy couple a bit more! Lucy and Matt, who is a good friend of Lucy's brother, met in London at a Rugby Sevens Tournament at Twickenham - dressed as aliens!
Fast forward to the proposal, Matt had planned a surprise birthday trip to San Sebastián, which ended up being their engagement trip! After popping the question in private on their balcony, the pair celebrated with a meal at a Michelin star restaurant that Matt had booked beforehand!
Armed with a vibrant bouquet of colourful peonies, Lucy paired her phenomenal tea-length Reformation gown with a pearl beaded Shrimps bag and gorgeous Loeffler Randall shoes. The crafty bride also added netting to a hairband she got from ASOS.
From the outset the couple wanted a relaxed yet elevated vibe for their stylish special day back home: "Our Belfast micro-wedding was the legal and religious bit, which we wanted to keep small and minimal as we had a full-blown celebration in France the next week!"
Surrounded by a small group of their closest friends and family, Lucy and Matt exchanged their vows in an intimate church ceremony in Belfast, where they both grew up. During the ceremony, a friend of the couple read the love poem Having a Coke With You by Frank O'Hara, which was their favourite reading from the day.
For her something old, new, borrowed and blue, Matt's mum gave Lucy a little keepsake from Donegal the day before their wedding; a large pin with four charms. "I was able to pin this to my bouquet for the day and now keep it in my wedding bag!"
Lucy and Matt had this advice for couples embarking on their own wedding planning journey: "Make it personal, do what you two want. A cookie-cutter wedding will never be as special to both of you without your own spin on things! You do you."
Lucy and Matt celebrated their nuptials with a sweet, fun-filled back garden party and a meal at their favourite restaurant back home, SHU.
Following on from all the busy festivities of their garden party celebration and their Bordeaux wedding, the couple took a well deserved mini-moon to the southwest of France. "Six months later we went on our mega-moon to South Africa and Mozambique, for an unforgettable safari and island experience. One thousand percent recommend!"
A huge thank you to Lucy and Matt for sharing their colourful, and oh-so charming garden party with us, and to Stephanie Joyce for these amazing images. Make sure to check out the gallery below for more shots from their special day!
