One crisp October's day in Dublin City centre, our real wedding couple Anna and Pól were applying their finishing touches before beginning their next chapter a husband and wife. Anna, radiant in her maternity wedding gown added pops of colour and warmth to her bridal style with burgundy additions and emerald green shoes! Here we have a wedding day full of love, intimacy and an ultimate fuss-free zone. Nina Val worked her photographic magic and captured the moments beautifully! Take a look below and see for yourself!
Anna and Pól first met on a night out in Galway with mutual friends back in 2012. As the night came to an end, Pól who had an umbrella, gallantly walked Anna back to where she was staying. There was something there, but for now, they just hugged and said they would see each other soon - but unfortunately, they didn’t. Cut to May 2018, Anna says: "the night of the referendum on the Eighth Amendment, our friends Mike and Will were getting married in Galway the next day and their guests had begun to gather in the pub, on a high from the result. I failed to recognise Pól, who had grown a beard in the meantime but fancied him all over again. Pól has lovely manners and didn’t say a word until the next day. There was whiskey in the sunshine, chats that felt easy and natural, and much later some smooches. This time we didn’t let each other get away!"
While visiting Anna’s parents, Pól planned to ask for their blessing to propose. He started with her dad, who was engrossed in a match and 'only slowly tuned in' to what was being said, but then gave his warm encouragement. While Pól went to ask Anna’s mum, Anna sat down by her dad, who immediately let the cat out of the bag, having assumed that she was in the know! Pól says; "Technically, we got engaged over by the kitchen sink, quietly, while the others were clinking glasses. We did a ‘take two’ properly by ourselves a few weeks later, at least, and that was a special evening."
Anna prepped at the Schoolhouse Hotel in Ballsbridge, and glowed on her wedding day in a dress that highlighted her beautiful baby bump. Her detailed maternity wedding gown was woven with floral lace allowing for full comfort and she added a rich burgundy shade using a velvet belt at her waist and a gorgeous wool shawl. Her flowers were packed with berries, ruscus and autumnal blooms which picked up the tones perfectly!
The bride walked down the aisle arm in arm with her parents to Passenger Seat by Death Cab For Cutie. The wedding day was described as intimate, warm and unfussy - how blissful does that sound! The ceremony took place in the Dublin Registry Office, followed by cheerful photographs along the canal before arriving at Locks restaurant for their intimate evening reception.
Spot the emerald green bridal flats, what a colourful surprise!
When it came to advice, the couple chose these words of wisdom: "Keep your focus on what the day is for. You’re celebrating a heartfelt, joyful commitment along with your favourite people and it won’t really matter if the tiny details aren't immaculate. As it turned out, our best friends - bridesmaid Sara and best man Ciarán - and their respective beloveds Jaime and Aisling leapt into action to help make all the rough bits smooth, and our wonderful photographer Nina also went above and beyond," they say.
They chose a one-tier wedding cake dressed with plump blooms and decorated with gilded finishing touches.
For the photographic finale the couples exited via a picture-perfect tunnel of sparklers to conclude the wonderful day. They continued their celebrations by spending a relaxing few days at Breaffy House Hotel in Mayo whilst awaiting the arrival of their little bundle of joy - a son who arrived the following January. They hope to go on a proper adventure to Japan in a few years’ time!
A very special thank you to Anna, Pol and Nina Val for sharing their intimate Dublin city wedding day with One Fab Day.
