Let's begin with Hannah and Paul's love story. From Sligo and Wexford respectively, they met while studying at UCD. A mutual friend initiated the spark by introducing them, but it was Paul’s family dog Buster who truly stole Hannah’s heart, closely followed by Paul himself of course. Now, for the proposal! "We booked a few days away in a traditional thatched cottage overlooking the beach of Fintra Bay in Donegal. Paul then popped the question at the nearby ‘secret waterfall’. We kept the news to ourselves for the day and spent the evening by the open fire in Bumblebee Cottage. Paul had a surprise trip to Ashford Castle in Galway booked for the following few days where we continued the celebrations," says Hannah.
The talented Calligraphy by Laura, was the creative behind these delicate stationery designs, which fit perfectly with the softly, pared back aesthetic.
As for the details, we spied a beautiful pair of Jimmy Choo heels, a statement pearl hairband and a sensational summer fragrance from Byredo.
After Hannah's glam team applied the finishing touches to her hair and makeup, it was time to slip into her gown. She chose a simple, satin-smooth wedding dress, custom-made by Australian designer, Prea James. The subtle cowl neck and low backline, paired with delicate spaghetti straps, was cut to perfection for Hannah and finished with a flowing train train - a perfect less-is-more bridal look, complemented her pearl bridal headband and matching earrings. Her bouquet, a mix of wild daisies and pale pink roses added subtle warmth. "To sum up our wedding, I would say it was very relaxed but elegant. We wanted a city, chic vibe but with timeless elements. We kept the colour theme simple, with all nude, sand pale pinks tones," Hannah explains..
The bridesmaids wowed in mix and match dresses dresses of different complementary shades from Coast with each lady showcasing her own personal style! Before the ceremony began, Hannah and Paul took a private moment to share a first look photo. We must say, our groom is rocking that black-tie tuxedo!
The wedding ceremony and reception took place against the grandeur of Merrion Hotel, in Dublin City centre. Hannah who loves period architecture was first drawn to the venue for that reason. "We loved the choice of beautiful rooms and the cosy and quirky Cellar Bar in the old wine cellar was a big selling point. It quickly became clear the setting, food and service of The Merrion could not be met. We knew we'd be getting five-star luxury, but most importantly in a very friendly, relaxed environment. We cannot thank Laura in the Merrion enough for all her hard work. She really got to know us, made sure everything happened seamlessly and her attention to detail was incredible!" says Paul.
One of their favourite ceremony readings was a poem entitled Love written by Paul’s late grandmother, Granny O’Leary. As for their favourite piece of ceremony music, it came from the first movie they ever watched together - the excerpt from the animated film Up played by the Carolan Quartet. Marrying the couple was the fabulous Eileen Morris, a registered solemniser whose ceremonies are not only meaningful, but also reflect the personalities of her brides and grooms, making it a truly one-of-a-kind experience for the couple and their guests!
The most special part of the newlywed's wedding day was when their dog Nala met after the wedding! "Our golden retriever Nala making an appearance for photographs was certainly the highlight. She happily posed for Michelle and loved the many belly rubs from the guests!" Another beautiful moment during the Dublin city ceremony was Paul’s dad walking Hannah up the aisle which they found particularly meaningful, as was the beautiful speech given by Hannah's mum.
When it came to wedding priorities, the number one was to have a very relaxed wedding, with the people that mattered most. They say: "we wanted it to feel more like a big dinner party of our close friends rather than a traditional wedding. From the beginning, having a photographer whose work we adored was a big priority. We knew Michelle Prunty was the one and she was the first supplier confirmed. Music was another big priority. We also wanted the food to be great and chef Ed Cooney in The Merrion did a phenomenal job!"
Another great photo opportunity came via a special delivery from Paul's parents - their vintage Jaguar. The perfect place to strike a pose. The dapper groomsmen also in classic black-tie attire, strutted their stuff en route to wedding venue, with their oh-so-cool shades!
Bubbles awaited guests as they entered the intimate dining room where each table was garnished with pink floral arrangements and tapered candlesticks. A magnificent three-tiered wedding cake awaited its moment in the corner of the room.
Hannah and Paul have a few words of advice to other engaged couples: "Be true to yourself in planning the day. Always go with what you feel most comfortable with, not what you assume will be expected of you!"
After the Dublin wedding celebrations came to an end, the lovebirds jetted off on a blissful honeymoon to the Amalfi Coast in Italy, staying in Positano, Priano and Sorrento which they highly recommend.
Thank you to our wonderful couple Hannah and Paul and of course Michelle Prunty for sharing this Dublin city wedding day with us all at One Fab Day!
