Disco Art Deco at The Dean: Morganna & Liam's Dublin City Wedding

This bride made her own wedding dress!

Our real wedding couple, artist and designer duo Morganna and Liam, infused their creative talents into their character-filled wedding day at The Dean Hotel in the heart of Dublin City. Personal touches and unique, inventive details were at the core of this colourful celebration, from the wedding gown and bridesmaid dress created by the bride, to the bouquets made up of flowers picked from their gardens and the wooden ceremony arches constructed by the groom and his father. With a spectacular theme consisting of clean lines, stripes, swirls, metallic fringe, pops of neon and pale yellow, this extremely stylish wedding is not to be missed. Check out this fun-filled special day captured by the fabulous Nina Val Photography below.

Before we dive into their fantastic, contemporary wedding day, let's get to know the happy couple a little bit more! Morganna and Liam met while studying at NCAD and began dating two years after being paired up as student buddies. Fast forward to the proposal, Liam ended up getting down on one knee while the couple were on a stroll in the low tide on Sandymount Strand. Knowing Morganna wanted to choose her own engagement ring, Liam popped the question using a ring he had made himself, which was crafted from Irish linen wrapped in silk threads and adorned with a cluster of crystal beads in a handmade origami box.

364 days after the seaside proposal, the couple's wedding day kicked off in style with Morganna arriving in a bright yellow Mini decorated with white ribbons and colourful blooms. We are in awe of Morganna's hand-crafted wedding dress complete with pearl studded tulle, ruffle detailing and a fabulous pale yellow, statement neoprene bow, which is Liam's favourite colour. This absolutely glorious bridal look also featured a detachable tail perfect for transitioning the dress for dancing later that night!

Cleverly, Morganna picked up her bridal veil which she wore for the ceremony from the Paul Costello selection of communion veils at Dunnes Stores! Our glowing bride also opted to complete the look with a coordinating cluster of pearl and rhinestone clips in her hair and chunky purple heels embellished with disco mirrored tiles. Going that extra mile, Morganna also made her bridesmaid's fabulous sky blue gown with elegant black ruffle detailing!

Liam's suit was embellished with multi-coloured embroidery and hand-knitted cord appliqués, echoing the swirl motifs used throughout the décor and the couple also incorporated this cord into their hand-fasting ritual. During the ceremony, the pair included the romantic poem I Carry Your Heart With Me by EE Cummings and when Liam asked his good friend to read it at the ceremony, he replied with a photo of the poem which he had framed on his wall!

Friends of the couple arrived at 8am to set up the eye-catching silver foil tinsel curtains that were used as a backdrop throughout the day. As an extra personal touch, the gorgeous wedding bouquets were made up of a combination of ox eye daisies from the mother of the bride's garden and Japanese anemones from Liam’s family’s garden mixed with wild flowers arranged by their friends.

Creating the right playlist to flow smoothly from day to night was at the forefront of Morganna and Liam's wedding planning and the couple started working on their music selection the day after they got engaged! "Music and lighting are key for us in creating a tone so we worked really hard to create the perfect soundtrack with different moods throughout the day and night." While signing their marriage license the couple opted to play Taylor Swift's track, Invisible String and for their exit song they chose Sigur Rós' Inní Mér Syngur Vitleysingur.

After their fabulous ceremony, Morganna and Liam descended on Dublin City for a cool graffiti filled photoshoot.

The couple had this advice for those embarking on their own wedding planning journey: "Don’t be pressured by tradition, have the wedding that is right for you and your love. Plan things ahead of time so that on the day you can release yourself of project managing and just enjoy the day as it unfolds."

After their photoshoot the couple returned to The Dean for their stylish reception and the graphic wooden arches and metallic fringe curtains were rearranged to surround the dancefloor following their ceremony. "The Blue Room was the first venue we visited and they really set the bar high. It is a beautiful space, great location and the staff were incredible throughout the process, they were professional, accommodating and kind." Throughout the day's events, Liam's best man was in charge of the mood lighting and alternated the colours of the fluorescent tube lights to suit the changing atmosphere.

With a dress code of 10/10 fabulous, the night went on to include a fully vegetarian meal in Sophie’s Rooftop restaurant in The Dean, an art deco style clementine cake, a polaroid guest book using instax, plenty of speeches and a first dance to Kisses Sweeter Than Wine by Jimmie Rodgers. After plenty of partying, guests were sent home with hand painted wedding favours filled with ox-eyed daisy seeds!

Following their wedding, the couple jetted off for a well deserved trip to Paris for a stay in a boutique hotel to unwind after all the festivities! "It was important to us to go on honeymoon straight away because we had worked so hard in the run up to the wedding that we needed to get away and switch off. It’s also such a special time that we wanted to pause and enjoy time together; just the two of us."
